Mohammad orders implementation of road projects to ease traffic flow

[29/08/2005]

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Minister of Defence, yesterday ordered the Dubai Municipality to implement a number of vital road projects urgently to ease traffic flow in the emirate.

Shaikh Mohammad, who visited the municipality, was briefed by officials mainly about road projects in Al Sufouh and surrounding areas in addition to new crossings over Dubai Creek.

He ordered the construction of two interchanges at Shaikh Zayed Road, as well as several tunnels and flyovers in Dubai Marina.

Shaikh Mohammad reviewed various road projects and instructed some improvements in ongoing and proposed projects.

The new projects include setting up a world-class public transport network in Dubai Marina and the Jumeirah Residence area.

He ordered the construction of an 11km-long light rail track on Al Sufouh Road linking it with new residential and tourism projects. The light rail system will be linked to Dubai Metro network on Shaikh Zayed Road.

Shaikh Mohammad also reviewed the construction of a new bridge project (fifth crossing) over Dubai Creek near Sheraton Hotel and ordered the speedy construction of existing projects including the third bridge (fourth crossing) over Dubai Creek.

According to Engineer Mattar Al Tayer, Deputy Director General of Dubai Municipality, who gave a presentation on road projects, Shaikh Mohammad's instructions are in line with his policy to support investment in the emirate and provide all facilities to residents.

Shaikh Mohammad reviewed plans to construct a number of new pedestrian bridges in different areas.

Al Tayer said the municipality has finalised projects about a road network starting from Jumeirah Residences to Dubai Marina.

He said a number of tunnels and bridges will be constructed on Al Sufouh Road, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Residence.
